Our calculation principles
DateTimeWise is designed to make the assumptions behind date and time math visible. Core calculations run in the browser using standard calendar and internationalization capabilities. This page explains the conventions used by the tools.
Calendar dates and leap years
Date-only tools use the modern Gregorian calendar behavior provided by the browser. Leap years and the extra day in February are therefore handled automatically. Calendar months are not treated as a fixed number of days.
Adding years, months, weeks and days
The Date Calculator applies larger calendar units before smaller ones. Adding a month means moving by a calendar month, not automatically adding 30 days. Weeks are treated as seven calendar days.
Inclusive and exclusive endpoints
The Days Between Dates and Business Days tools expose endpoint options because counting conventions differ. For a range, including both endpoints counts both dates; excluding an endpoint removes it from the counted set.
Business days and holidays
A business day is any date that is not selected as a weekend/non-working weekday and is not found in the chosen holiday exclusions. You can customize weekend days and add custom holidays.
Built-in holiday presets are convenience datasets or rules for common national/federal observances. They may not include regional, state, provincial, religious, employer-specific or one-off holidays, and local observance rules can change. Important legal, tax, payroll, shipping or compliance deadlines should always be verified against an authoritative source.
Time zones and daylight saving time
The Date & Time Difference Calculator uses IANA timezone identifiers supported by your browser. A local timestamp is converted to an instant, then elapsed time is measured between instants. That makes UTC offsets and daylight-saving changes part of the result.
During daylight-saving transitions, some local clock times can be ambiguous or may not exist. DateTimeWise provides a practical browser-based calculation, but critical schedules should be verified when they fall exactly around a clock-change boundary.
Rounding and display
Whole-day calculators operate at calendar-day precision. Time calculators normalize to seconds and may show decimal hours rounded to a few decimal places for readability. The underlying displayed totals are intended for planning and general utility rather than regulated measurement.
